NFL season kicks off with a 36-16 Seattle Seahawks victory over the Green Bay Packers

The long awaited National Football League (NFL) season finally began on Thursday, September 4 with a 36-16 Seattle Seahawks win against the Green Bay Packers. As usual, the season opener featured a home game for the reigning Super Bowl Champions. The Seahawks, champions of Super Bowl 48, played host to the visiting Packers. Although the Packers are considered a championship contender this year, they had a tough first game against the Seattle Seahawks, who have one of the top defenses in the league. Another difficult part of playing in Seattle was the sheer volume of Seattle’s fans, also known as the 12th Man.
Once the game began it seemed like the Seahawks were starting where they left off last year: a dominant 43-8 Super Bowl victory against the Denver Broncos featuring Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was 19/28 with 191 passing yards and 2 touchdown (TD) passes to receiver Ricardo Lockette and fullback Derrick Coleman. Wilson completed passes to 8 different players. On top of that, Seattle’s run game impressed spectators with Marshawn Lynch carrying the ball for 110 rushing yards and 2 TD’s.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed nervous because of the Seahawks defense and was ultimately sacked three times. Turnovers were not a major issue for either team in this game.
The Seahawks’ impressive game demonstrated why the team is worthy of being a Super Bowl champion.
