Our mom and dad tuck us into bed and take the scary monsters out of our heads.
They tell us a story and kiss us “Goodnight,” and we ask them to turn on our shiny night
lights.
Afraid of the dark, we hear with pure hearts,
“I love you so much,” and we can’t get enough.
We’re suddenly teens, the kings and the queens
of our own little worlds; we think we have seen
our “loves at first sight” who stay up late at night saying,
“I love you so much,” and we can’t get enough.
At the age of total freedom, we slowly see our friends drift away.
Some just got up and left us, while the dearest ones stay.
On our phones, we take a picture, and out of the blue, with voices so pure,
“I love you so much,” and we can’t get enough.
We teens are grown up, and are now in some crisis.
We remember “back when…,” to try to get through this.
Those of us who made vows find comfort now with
“I love you so much,” and we can’t get enough.
The crisis has passed but we’re still having trouble.
There’s a gap in our hearts, so we bake, read, and travel.
We pack up the car, kiss our spouses goodbye; they say to “take care,” as we
drive off at night.
Soon we get homesick and pray for the day
when once again we will hear them say,
“I love you so much,” and we can’t get enough.
Now we barely can move, but turn our heads to our desks.
We stare at the picture when we were our best.
Reflect on when they got us through fears, wishing that they somehow
could still be here.
Looking up to the sky, with tears in our eyes,
“I love you so much,” and with no doubt in our minds, still can’t get enough.
