University High School’s (UHS) boys water polo played another frustrating match against Northwood High School (NHS) on October 30.
Northwood scored two fast goals in the beginning of the first quarter. Its offense was intense, but UHS goalkeeper, Matt Moran (So.) made several blocks that prevented NHS from scoring again in the first quarter. Kian Matin (Sr.) scored a goal in the right corner of the net to end the quarter.
In the second quarter, NHS acquired three more goals. Although UHS’s defense struggled to guard counter plays throughout the quarter, Moran made many impressive saves. The first half ended with a score of 2-6, with NHS in the lead.
In the third quarter, NHS fired a shot, but Daniel Campanaro (So.) blocked it. Matin then put in his second goal of the match with a behind-the-back shot. NHS scored three more goals to end the third quarter with a score of 2-7.
NHS started the fourth quarter with a goal off of a 5-meter penalty. It then scored two more goals, but Andy Rasla (Sr.) responded with two goals of his own. The final score of the game was 4-12 with NHS taking the win.
Overall, it was a tough match for UHS. Campanaro said, “We know we could’ve had a better performance. It’s a team effort and we are still looking for our first win. We have the passion; we just need to play better defense and have a better offensive game.”
The Trojans will play their final game of the season on Tuesday, November 4 away against Irvine High School.
