I built walls to protect myself from heartbreak, broken promises and pain. I used to think promises were meant to be kept and secrets were meant to remain secrets. I thought friends were forever. I thought I could trust the people closest to me. I thought the people who loved me would not hurt me. I never thought my secrets would be used against me. I kept them under lock and key until my firm walls were gently broken, allowing me to hold trust in others. My trust was not permission to manipulate me and break my confidence. Now, I am trying to rebuild my walls, but I feel as if someone is constantly trying to break them down. I always thought I would be safe inside my mind, but now that too has been taken over.
