UHS Girls Golf breaks all-time UHS record

Staff Writer
UHS Girls Golf broke their record for best score ever with a total score of 182 in a match on Tuesday, September 8. At home, the girls beat Mission Viejo High School (MVHS), which scored 241. Two days later, they beat MVHS again at an away match-up, which ended with a score of 202-251.
During the match on Tuesday, Ellen Takada (Sr.) shot a 33, the best score of the day. Takada struggled on a few of the first holes, but was able to make two birdies in a row later on. When asked about her hopes for the season and for the team, she said, “For my senior season, I want to achieve things we previously weren’t able to, such as making CIF.”
Dana Choi (Fr.), who shot a 37, said, “We felt in sync with each other and played extremely well. This will take us far in league and will get us to first place.”
Most of the team had not played at the Mission Viejo country club before, and the unfamiliarity caused some to underperform. Ellen Takada shot a 39 (+3) and Kristin Shea (So.) shot a 38 (+2). Reflecting on the team’s performance, Takada said, “Each of us found improvements that we need to work on for the season and that will help us get ready to compete against the reigning league champions, Beckman.”
The girls have advanced to 4-0 in the preseason. The team feels confident with its early success and will look to continue their form going into league play.
