The Girls Varsity Tennis Team took a close 10-8 victory over Dana Hills on September 13. The Trojans are ranked third this season in Orange County while Dana Hills sits near the top at second. The Trojans have always been challenged by the Dolphins, a team notorious for their competitiveness in league.
DHHS proved to be a tough opponent in the doubles category as the Trojans lost 5 sets of 9 overall. However, UHS came back strong in singles, with players Halla Alajeely (Sr.), Dana Feng (So.), and Tiffany Markus (Jr.), dominating their individual sets against the Dolphins with an overall score of 8-1.
Under the leadership of captains Ashlyn Wang (Sr.), Sasha Iraniha (Jr.), and Kayla Agustin (Jr.), the team was able to pull a win in this very tough matchup despite a difficult start.
“As a captain this year, it feels great to be able to lead a group of such hard-working girls.” Agustin said, “I feel really lucky to be able to help lead the team and be a sort of mentor the younger girls.”
As of this game, the Varsity Team is currently 3-0 pre-league and is ready to face their next opponent at home in a very close matchup against Campbell Hall on September 15. Campbell Hall has always been a challenging opponent for the Trojans.
