Girls Varsity Volleyball lost to Corona del Mar High School by a score of 1-3 in a league matchup on Thursday night, October 6. Following the game, UHS is now ranked 27th in the Division III Southern Section rankings, while CdM is ranked 26th in the Division I Southern Section rankings (Max Preps).
After splitting the first two sets, University had complete control of the third until they blew a massive 15-5 lead, handing the Sea Kings a 25-22 win. Momentum shifted in favor of the Sea Kings and the Trojans found themselves with their backs against the wall, forced to win the next set to stay alive.
Outside hitter Kira Cashman (Sr.) and right side hitter Bella Oldham (Sr.) along with hitter Jaylee Morse (Sr.) racked up points for UHS down the stretch.
Down 14-9, UHS staged a comeback narrowing the deficit to 14-13, but CdM scored 9 of the next 10 points and eventually ran away with the 25-18 victory.
“Even though we didn’t walk away with the win, our team can feel satisfied with our first set performance” hitter Alma Enteresi (Sr.) said.
The Trojans next home game is against Irvine High School on October 11 as the team looks to improve in league play.
