Boys Water Polo fell short to Corona del Mar in a game that finished off as 7-23
The Trojans started off strong in the first quarter with co-team captain Daniel Campanaro (Sr.) scoring 2 of his 4 goals against CdM. “We were excited going into the game, and were looking to take down the league’s top gun,” Campanaro said.
However, UHS began to perform less towards the second half, as CdM began controlling the game. “They were in better shape than we were. They took advantage of their speed, and scored a good amount of their goals off of counters,” Bennett Kidder (Jr.) said.
UHS still managed to have impressive highlights with goals by Campanaro, Kidder, as well as Ben Gomez (Sr.)  and Kei Yoshikawa (Sr.).
The team only has two league games before concluding their season. Although the team’s chance of entering CIF playoffs has passed, the boys plan on, “going all out in order to get [their] record better,” says Alex Rasla (Sr.). Their current record is 1 win and 7 losses within the league, and 9 wins and 17 losses overall.
Star player Campanaro is 17 goals away from breaking the school record, and has three games left to do so. Campanaro unexpectedly got an injury in his right thumb during practice weeks prior, tearing three ligaments mid-season.
UHS is scheduled to play a non-league game against Laguna Hills, one league match against Irvine on Thursday, October 27 at Irvine. Their final league match will be against Woodbridge on Tuesday, November 1 at home, which will be the Game of the Week.
