Varsity Boys Water Polo fell to the Woodbridge in a neck-to-neck game ending in a score of 7-8 on Tuesday, November 1. The game concluded the season within the Pacific Coast League.
Within the first half of the game, UHS maintained a lead going into the second half. In the second half, however, University and Woodbridge alternated leads back and forth. The fourth quarter ended with a tie of 7-7, which brought the match into overtime.
After countless possession turnovers and stops, Woodbridge was eventually able to score the final goal of the match within the first half of overtime. In the last possession for the Trojans, and the final opportunity for University to tie the match, Woodbridge triple teamed Daniel Campanaro (Sr.), which forced Campanaro to pass the ball to Scott Laske (Sr.). However, Laske was unable to score on the Woodbridge goalie within the final seconds.
Campanaro was 12 goals away from breaking the school record for most goals scored as he entered this match; however, was unable to deplete that margin against Woodbridge. University has one final, out-of-league match against Laguna Hills on Saturday, November 5th, which will be Campanaro’s final opportunity to break the school record. As for the team, UHS will finish off the season with a league record of 1-9.
