Girls Varsity Tennis defeated Martin Luther King High School 13-5 on Friday, November 4. Going into the match, fifth ranked UHS was confident they would defeat the unranked Wolves.
Singles starters Halla Alajeely (Sr.), Dana Feng (So.), and Kamar Alajeely (So.) swept, winning all nine of their matches. Even after a score dispute in the first round, Feng overcame her frustration to win the set 6-3.
The doubles teams did not fare as well, winning four out of nine matches. Doubles teammates Ashlyn Wang (Sr.) and Tiffany Markus (Jr.) stood out for the Trojans, winning all three of their matches to help secure victory against the Wolves.
“During the match we were very tense,” doubles player Adriana Pinto (So.) said. “However we will work on relaxing and playing the game step by step so that next time it won’t be the case.”
After their match, the Trojans felt confident about their matchup against Peninsula.
“We look forward to playing against Peninsula,” doubles player Tiffany Markus (Jr.) said. “This is the sum of all the hard work we put in this year, and if we all work together and support each other, we have a solid chance of defeating them.”
Girls Tennis is set to play in the quarterfinals on Monday, November 7 at Peninsula High School.
