UHS Wrestling defeated Northwood by a score of 66-9 on Wednesday night, January 4. The smack-down by the Trojans lasted a total of forty-five minutes before both sides shook hands. With the win, UHS improves to 2-0 in league.
Led by Captains Jordan Elam (Sr.) and Nicholas Dang (Sr.), UHS wrestlers competed in increasing weight classes. One by one, the Trojan wrestlers kept widening the gap with incremental six point victories. This dominance was too much for Northwood to handle as they had no solutions to their struggles.
In the first period, Max Hertz (Sr.) won his individual match by taking down his opponent in only one minute.
“We whooped them,” Hertz said following the blowout victory.
Another impressive takedown came from Zander Burright (Jr.), who pinned his Timberwolf challenger down in only fifteen seconds. .
After the match, wrestling was satisfied with way everyone contributed to the blowout win. “It was a great team effort,” Hans Valdez (Sr.) said.
Fans were very satisfied by their home team’s win. One spectator, John Stapakis (Fr.) said, “The Varsity [team] really showed who was boss tonight. I really look up to the Varsity guys.”
The next match is against CDM next Wednesday on January 11 as the Trojans look to stay undefeated in league.
