Boys Varsity Basketball loses to Corona del Mar 48-71 during its second-to-last home game this season. This loss places University in third place in the Pacific Coast League.
The game started off with the usual starters, but at the end of the first quarter UHS was down by five with the score 12-17. At the end of halftime, the boys raised the scored to 18 points, but were losing by a margin of 16 points as CdM was shooting at a higher percentage than the Trojans.
Captain Alex Bray (Jr.) said, “They just outplayed us; in the first half of the game we played well but we didn’t make much shots, so it was hard for us to stay in the game.”
The third quarter resulted in more opportunities to shoot and UHS brought the score up to thirty, but CDM still held the lead. By the end of the fourth quarter, the score turned out to be 48 UHS and 71 CdM.
“I’m disappointed at the loss,” Captain Kevin Yahampath (Jr.) said, “We just never got it going offensively.”
Boys Varsity has yet to compete against Irvine High and Woodbridge High next week. The game against Woodbridge is the team’s next home game on Thursday, February 9.
