Girls Varsity Lacrosse won their first preseason scrimmage 13-11 against Valencia High School on Monday, February 27.
Valencia had a relatively weaker play compared to previous opponents’, so the team was able to stay strong on the offense. Throughout the game, notable players such as Molly Pirus (Jr.), Ashley Chandler (Jr.), Raeann Artim (Sr.), Honia Mohtashami (Sr.), and Ashlyn Wang (Sr.) all scored goals. Among them, Mohtashami scored three points, and Wang scored six points.
However, the rain in the beginning half hindered the overall conditions of the game. “During warm up, we really noticed the difference,” Olivia Holmes (Jr.) said. “…our sticks [were] all slippery and the balls keep sliding off.”
After the second half of the game, the rain stopped and the girls pulled together to advance on offense and strengthen their defensive play. With this strategy, they were able to score more points.
“It’s definitely an exciting and fun game to watch,” Maddie Boschen (Jr.), a JV player, said. “Varsity girls are always working super hard and attacking goals, [they] always approach games with their best abilities, which I really admire them for that.”
The team will play their first official game on Wednesday, March 1 against El Dorado High School.
