The Boys Varsity Golf Team lost its first game of the season against Huntington Beach by a score of 213-196 on March 13 at its home course, Strawberry Farms. The Trojans came into this match coming off of consecutive victories against El Toro and Portola.
This is the team’s first loss of the season as Huntington managed to barely edge the Trojans.
Both teams shot 36 on the front 9.
Jerry Li (So.) led the Trojans by going +2. The Trojans struggled to achieve the average score they have had since the beginning of the season.
In response to the loss, Weston Beckmann (Fr.) said “We lost a close one at home but as long as we stay positive and play well, winning will come naturally”.
After the departure of four seniors last year, this year’s team is entirely comprised of underclassmen. While the lack of veteran leadership might be important, the youthfulness of the team gives them time to develop into potential CIF contenders down the road.
The team is currently 2-1 in pre-season.
The Trojans begin league play on March 21 and look to bounce back from the loss with a victory against Beckman High School (BHS) at the Strawberry Farms Golf Course.
