Boys Varsity Volleyball won against Irvine with a score of 3-2 last Friday, April 14. With this win, UHS is now 2-3 in League with wins against Northwood and Irvine.
The Trojans began strong, winning the first two sets. But then, Irvine made a comeback winning the next two, leaving the outcome of the game to the last set.
Realizing that the game was on the line after losing their momentum, the players pushed themselves and won the last set.
Every set was a competitive one; in the first and second, UHS won 25-20 and 25-22.
Opposite hitter Andrew Nguyen (Sr.) said, “This game was way too close; I think we could’ve closed it off at 3-0 but we got pushed to 3-2.”
In the third and fourth sets, which Irvine won, the scores were 25-20 and 25-21. And finally, the score for the last set, which UHS won, was 15-8.
Team Captain Christian Beltran (Jr.) said, “We started off strong, had a little bit of mishaps in the second half, but we were able to pull through at the end.”
This game started and ended with the players having a positive attitude.
Outside hitter Steven Du (Sr.) said, “I thought it was really fun. I love the Irvine High players because they’re super friendly so it was a good spirited match and I’m happy we took the win overall.”
Boys Volleyball is set to have a game next week against Beckman on Tuesday, April 18 at home.
