Girls Varsity Lacrosse won against Woodbridge 12-2 and made CIF. It was also their senior night and game of the week. This year’s team has been the first to qualify for CIF in lacrosse ever in UHS’s history. Team Captain Phoebe Solomon (Sr.) said, “Winning that game and qualifying for CIF invoked an unconditional joy which transcends words…to not only beat them, but to absolutely demolish them was confirmation of how greatly we’ve grown as a team.”
The first half of the historic game ended with a score of 7-1. The game started off strong with middle field player Ashley Chandler (Jr.) scoring one of her points in the first half and ending the game with two.f. The other girls followed her in order to match her intensity. Team Captains Honia Motashami (Sr.) and Ashlyn Wang (Sr.), and attacker Megan Lee (Sr.), midfielder Raeann Artim (Sr.), and defender Amanda Shubin (Sr.) each scored one point for UHS.
The second half concluded with a score of 12-2. In this half, attacker Dena Parsa (Sr.), Motashami, Gustafson, Shubin, and Artim came together and converted a total of five shots.
The lacrosse team is ecstatic to go out with a bang, “It’s crazy to be the first team ever in UHS lacrosse history to qualify for CIF,” said Wang.
The team was highly motivated because of the support from the Trojan army. Chandler said, “Having the Trojan Army there to support us definitely made the win even better. I think everyone played a solid game, especially our amazing goalie Gracelyn Caceros.”
The girls’ first CIF match will be on Tuesday, May 2, against Mater Dei.
