The Varsity Track teams had mixed results against Irvine, as Boys Track lost 73-55, while Girls Track won handily with a score of 71-41.
Despite the loss, the boys had some excellent results to carry into league prelims. Harry Baker (Sr.) placed first in the 100 and 200 meter, and Jeremy Koo (Jr.) continued his dominance in the 400, winning yet again. However, Irvine was able to overcome their losses in the sprint events in long distance events and jumps, where the Trojans struggled to compete.
The girls must have been pleased with their win. Even the absence of star runner Paige Metayer (Jr.) didn’t slow them down, and they ran away with the win. They were led by a first place finish for Daria Shekl (Jr.) in the 100 meter hurdles, and Juli Brom (Jr.) placed second in the 800.
Many of the athletes were happy to see their teammates compete well in a difficult matchup. Christian Go (Jr.) said, “It’s awesome to see these runners thrive under such a competitive atmosphere.”
Undoubtedly, all of the members of the team will be focused fully on league preliminaries, happening next Tuesday, May 2. From there, those who advance will participate in league finals, and then hopefully move on to CIF preliminaries and CIF finals.
