Girls Varsity tennis won their rivalry match against Woodbridge High School 15-3 on Thursday, October 18. This was the last home game of their season, putting them at 13-1. They are already guaranteed spots for CIF, but their ranking going into CIF could help with match the team against lower ranked opponents.
“It was really fun and exciting to win our last home game,” freshmen Arya Ramalingam said. “I hope our team goes into CIF as the number one seed, and we win our last game on Monday.”
Last year, the team made it to the CIF finals, but they fell to Corona Del Mar High School. The team this year seeks to change that.
“We always make it to the finals but lose against CDM,” senior captain Kamar Alajeely said. “This year we beat CDM with a score of 12-6 so there’s a really high chance of winning CIF.”
Varsity tennis has been showing great talent all year long, and the match against Woodbridge simply exemplified that talent. Singles won five out of the six matches in the first two rounds, all of the wins being 6-0. For many of the players, the win wasn’t about the match, which was very uncompetitive.
“Today’s win was one of the best wins of our season because it was senior night,” sophomore Mya Wang said. “All of the seniors this year have made an impact on my life, and they will definitely be missed.”
In addition to it being seniors night, it was also their GOW for rivalry week. Many people showed up to cheer on girls tennis who was facing the school’s long time rival.
“Although I lost my first doubles match, the supportive crowd helped me bounce back and win in the second round,” sophomore Therese Garcia said.
