On Friday, April 10, University High School hosted its Spring Pep Rally in the Big Gym. During the rally, incoming sports commissioners and varsity spring sports teams were introduced on stage. ASB members helped run the event smoothly while hyping up the crowd.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, sung by UHS Choir members Ashkon Norbash and Justin Wu. The cheer and song program followed the choir with a strong, memorable performance. Each class, seated in distinct sections of the gym, was encouraged to make noise in support of the school.
“I was super impressed with our school community,” sophomore Arin Pai said. “Seeing our entire school in the gym to support our sports programs was uplifting.”
Beside the stage, the UHS Band worked hard to add sound effects and music to the pep rally. Coordinating with ASB directors and cheerleaders, the band members greatly enhanced the school spirit and overall energy of this event.
“We began practicing for pep rallies in the summer,” marching band flute player Lucia Yu said. “Practicing together in the morning was super fun, and I’m really grateful for the friends I’ve made in this program.”
This year’s Boys’ and Girls’ Sports Commissioners, Diego Sosa and Ayla Agahi, introduced their successors, Charlie Carmichael and So Nomura. Each gave a brief speech about their excitement and the vision for the future of UHS.
“My main goal for next year is to try and lay out a foundation for a larger sports program for future years,” Carmichael said. “I’m hoping that my plan will have an impact on future sports commissioners to continue this program at UHS.”
The current commissioners then introduced each spring sport, highlighting team accomplishments to build excitement in the crowd. Varsity teams walked on stage, with captains recognizing upperclassmen. Representatives from each team then competed in an air mattress relay race, where participants jumped on mattresses to slide them forward. The boys’ volleyball team won the event.
“The Spring Pep Rally was cool,” volleyball player Matthew Wu said. “I think recognizing players’ contributions is an important aspect of school spirit.”
As the last pep rally of the 2025-26 school year, the Spring Pep Rally served as a strong celebration of school spirit. Band, ASB, sports and cheer programs all contributed to making the event a success.
