University High School (UHS) football continued its positive start of the season with a 37-10 win over Laguna Beach High School (LBHS) on September 12 at Laguna’s home field. UHS is still undefeated this season at 2-0.
UHS came out strong in the first quarter, scoring 2 touchdowns from Matt Abellaneda (Jr.) and Neil Boudreau (Jr.). For the rest of the game, UHS continued to dominate with offensive touchdowns from Boudreau and Sam Winder (So.). Hamza Diab (Jr.) recovered a third quarter fumble in the end zone for a defensive touchdown.
Key players include wide receiver Boudreau with 125 receiving yards, running back John Kang (Sr.) who powered through LBHS’ defense and rushed for a total of 91 yards and quarterback Wes Jordan (Sr.) with a total of 215 passing yards. Jordan’s hand-offs and touchdown passes helped lead the team to another victory and allowed UHS to escape “The Losing Drought.”
Shayan Noories (Sr.) said, “We’re becoming better every week as a team and I’m proud of our team putting in work every Friday night. But 2-0 doesn’t mean anything yet—we still have a lot to improve.”
UHS’s next game is an away game on Saturday, September 20 against Calvary Chapel.
