After boys tennis finished off league with a 10-0 record, the team earned a spot in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) competition. The team faced Marina at home on May 13 in the first round of CIF. The team closed out the visitors with a score of 11-7. After clearing the 1st CIF round, the team faced Westlake on the 16th. Although the game was close, the Trojans managed to win once again with a score of 10-8. With the team on a streak and looking to continue, the team traveled to San Marino to play in quarterfinals. The team’s win streak ended as they lost 6-12 to San Marino to conclude the season.
Co-captain Konrad Kozlowski (Sr.) said, “Overall, we had a decent year like we always do. Unfortunately, we came short against San Marino, but the team is still number one. I believe the team will have great leaders next year to lead them to another CIF title. I think making Tommy Wang (Jr.) and JT Joens (Jr.) captains after Riku Hashiyada (Sr.) and I graduate would be a wise decision for the team. They have the morals and dedication to lead the team to success for many years to come.” Kozlowski, this year’s Pacific Coast League individuals champion, will compete in early June for the CIF individuals title.
“It is sad to end the season like that, we are all really shocked in what has happened, but we learned from our mistakes. We lost many crucial players in the past few years, like Gage Brymer (2013), Drew Dawson (2014), and Eric Tseng (2014), but the team managed to keep going in the correct path. I believe the team will further improve and bring back the CIF title,” said Ardalan Safi (Sr.).
