Step By Step: a poem

Drowning in a sea of papers,
Weighed down by the iron chain of pressure
Of expectations
Of hopes
Of dreams.
Sucked into a whirlpool of nightmares,
A tiny speck amidst a tempestuous world,
Fighting to stay afloat.
But each limb is leaden,
And the water is thick like molasses.
The light at the end of the tunnel extinguished.
All that is left is the mindless mantra:
Just one more step,
Left foot,
Right foot,
Repeat.
For all of eternity.
